Raymond and Bruce Boylan Collection of World War II records, 1906-1955 1939-1945.

This collection contains materials from Raymond and Bruce Boylan chronicling their experiences of World War II. Raymond Boylan's scrapbook (Series 1) follows his Naval career as a Seabee in the South Pacific. This scrapbook includes formal portraits and informal black and white snapshots of the family, friends, and soldiers. These photographs were taken in Lansing, Michigan, Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, and the South Pacific. In addition, the scrapbook includes Christmas cards given to Raymond from his wife, daughter, brother, and other family members along with military memorabilia such as menus and ration tickets. The scrapbook also contains some inserts of prewar and post war documentation. Of particular interest are Raymond's early flight records from 1951 to 1954. The second series of this collection consists of Bruce Boylan's personal correspondence and military records. The military records details his Army career in the United States, the Panama Canal, and China. Documents include his personnel file, flight record, certificates, and grades earned in service. Unlike his brother, Bruce Boylan did not survive the War. Bruce's personal correspondences include letters to his parents and sisters, largely written during the war. This collection includes letters of condolences written to Bruce's mother after his death in December of 1943.
